The Young Careerist Program sharpens women’s speaking abilities and leadership skills by focusing on the organization of speaking and writing, applying topics to appropriate audiences and presentation skills. The program allows participants to speak about their experience in or knowledge of something that inspires them as individuals within eight categories of topics.
Participants of the Young Careerist Program compete at the BPW/Ohio Young Careerist Speak-off at the BPW/Ohio Leadership Training in April to earn the respected title of Young Careerist. This statewide competition includes a personal interview and an individual speech presentation, with scores also given for group interaction, mentorship and leadership skills. The winner of the Speak-off will be given the opportunity to represent BPW/Ohio at its State Conference in May.
YBPW members have brought two Young Careerist titles home in recent years. In 2010, Gina Vicarel won the title (2010 Winner Gina Vicarel’s Speech), and Megan Phillips-Weisheipl was our 2009 winner (watch her give her speech here).
